Taken with Toledo

On a whim and a quick google search, Shayla and I decided to take a quick day trip to Toledo on the second day. Boy am I glad we did because it was magical! We had to stall a bit since we were too late for the earlier train by going to the Thyssen museum and seeing the Monet exhibit. That was great though. The weather was perfect and so sunny. We walked around everywhere and sat down at every plaza we saw.
Walking into the city from the bus station--
Top of the hill next to the castle---
Plaza we stayed in while eating chocolate pastries---
Sign I had to take a picture with! YAY home I miss y'all---
Great views at the bridge we stopped at----

That place was my favorite! I loved the view and thought  it looked like a fairytale where I could be the princess living in that castle (haha but really Shayla had to drag me away).

After the trip fortified by pastries and soda, we took the train back to Madrid and walked back to the hostel. We went back out soon after and grabbed some dinner at a bread place, both of us only having a vague idea of what we ate since there were no translations. Then we picked up some chocolate almonds and bottled water to brush our teeth and to distract us from the semi-disastrous dinner and called it a night by going back to the hostel early.

Mad for Madrid, part 1

Bus to Dublin for the airport for the last time woohoo!! So-so night at the Starbucks terminal again. Arrive to a perfect hostel, little did we know how wonderful it was in comparision to the second one. Highly recommend the WAY hostel even though we had a eight person female dorm. Shayla awkwardly got caught by the maid checking for bed bugs though haha. We were told that our beds wouldn't be ready until 12:30 so we wandered around the market and the plazas surrounding the palace.

Loved them, they were so great that we ended up hanging around in them a lot basking in the sun.
Once we got settled into the hostel and met some new friends on Spring Break, we walked to the Parque Del Retiro (soon to be one of my favorite places in Madrid). It was so relaxing to walk around and watch the people in their boats on the Estanque.
After walking around most of the city for the day, Shayla and I took a quick nap before we went to the Prado museum during their free hours at 6-8. It was so cool to see all the paintings of Goya and others. Then we had an early night at the hostel in order to get ready for our day trip to Toledo the next day since we were so exhausted with all the walking.

Catch-up

Monday. Exhaustion, class canceled, put up pictures of Scotland, watched Skins, booked London for last weekend in March after classes are done
Tuesday.  Lots of classes, The Bachelor picks Vienna (WTH), went out and paid to go into Havanas (a nightclub that charges you a ridiculous 6 euro that I had no desire to pay but since Mary's drunken confusion separated her from Emily we all had to go), ran into one of Shayla's friends
Wednesday.  Overslept since stupid nightclub kept me up, shopped with Shayla = bought a NEON PINK obnoxiously amazing umbrella with frills and ridiculous retro-ish sunglasses for our trip to Spain next week, Southland is new!, accepted my mother's facebook friend request
Thursday. Skipped going out so I could catch up on sleep and Skype with my parents, skyped with my parents, painted my nails in order to try to stick to my Lenten resolution, bought Madrid to Barcelona overnight train tickets
Friday. Watched The Office (Baby Halpert!), played in the park with some of the other girls, learned some rugby skills from Christina, listened to a traditional music session, ate dinner with some of the others (very delicious, I got chocolate cake!)
Saturday. Early brunch with Meghan and Claire (pancakes with chocolate sauce that were nowhere near as good as the ones I have with Theresa and fake bacon aka gross ham), read a bit, did a movie with Shayla for American Cinema class

Random Pics that I didn't include before but that are on my facebook page (which some of you can't see, sorry for those who already have)

Scotland, Part Four

Took the bus at 10:40 to Edinburgh.I was supposed to meet up with Lane there after us messaging back and forth but he overslept and missed his bus. It would have been too much of a hassle to organize going to him at Stirling so Shayla and I had fun in Edinburgh without him.The minute we stepped off the bus it was a bit of a downer because we did not know
where we were going but then we found it that it was CADBURY CARAMEL EGG SEASON. If you know me at all, you know that I adore cadbury caramel eggs, frequently buy out stores' stock of them, and consider caramel egg season to be better than both christmas and wedding season combined. Day thus turned around, we journeyed happily down Princes Street to our hostel. At first, the hostel seemed quite nice with the two receptionists being very friendly and helpful. Then we saw the room with its ten dorm beds and lockers which was still not quite a deterrent. It wasn't until the owner(?)/possible hostel worker told Shayla how beautiful her eyes were that we knew that this particular hostel experience would be rather interesting. As Shayla stared blankly at him (since she believed him to be complimenting my eyes instead), he assured her that it was "big brown eyes" that he was talking to. When she still didn't respond, he tried to explain away his creepiness as her eyes not being bloodshot like the ones he typically sees at the evidently party hard hostel. Other than that and a couple of jabbering Italian girls who went to sleep as early as we did, we survived the hostel with minimal interaction and got out of there as early as we could to get our airport express shuttle at 7 the next morning. Anyways before all that we walked all around the city and saw numerous places like
the Edinburgh Castle ---->
(apologies for my ridiculous appearance with neither my hair or makeup done)
and The Elephant House (the cafe where JK ROWLING FREAKIN' WROTE HARRY POTTER). Yes, dear readers, I stood at the place where she got her inspiration to tell others about the world of wizards. It was as magical as the places and people she writes about. Not a great picture but I had to include. The things I had to do to get there, I tell ya. First the receptionist mocked me for wanting to see something related to Harry Potter and advised me to get pissed instead. Second, he had told me the wrong place so we way overshot it and almost got lost but eventually made it the origin of the wonderful books.

After hitting those destinations and walking around the whole city, we really didn't have much to do at night since we had to go early to the airport. So Shayla and I decided to treat ourselves to a three course dinner at this inexpensive place called Made in Italy. It was adorable and we got cheesy garlic bread, pepperoni pizza, and gelato. Very delicious.

Ps. Scotland is over, clearly I had a fun time-- enough for me to recap in such detail (even though I didn't include half the hilarious little things that happened). Regular cork adventures will be caught up with some time tonight or tomorrow with the past week.

Scotland, Part Three

Friday we had another relaxing day with Nik and Brent giving us more of the tour. This time we saw the beach, the old golf course and some of around town that we hadn't before. It started off with this yummy

baguette place called Gorgeous that was ridiculously cheap. I got a delicious toasted bagel since I rarely eat them in Ireland and I had been craving one. It was perfect.

Shayla and I took a few pictures near the beach and the old course but it was so windy we didn't stay for long. I was literally pulled up off the ground; it felt like the Cliffs of Moher in Galway all over again. You can really tell from this silly picture of Shayla and me. Nik occasionally helped me with the wind by grounding my head with his massive hands.

As you can kind of tell from these pictures.

The rest of the day we spent chilling inside because the weather was so nasty. The boys were kind enough/silly enough to watch When in Rome with us to pass the time. Later that night, we hung around and talked while listening to Logan's music (which was AMAZING). Rihanna's song Rude Boy is my new anthem. After that, we headed out to bars called Drouthy Neebors (so scottish!) and the Raisin. It was so much fun chilling out at the laid back bars. None of those drinks are mine ps. haha no matter how much it seems like the one is shoved in front of my face. Neither Shayla or I got crazy that night; that honor was strictly reserved for the boys who were drinking straight whiskey(!). What Scottish hooligans! They either sang
(Brent, with a medley of the Free Willy Song, Love Story, and A Whole New World) or disappeared early to go back to the dorm (Logan). Funnily enough, all of them drunkenly agreed that I looked like Taylor Swift and insisted on telling me over and over again. Both passed out at the end of the night waking up hilariously the next morning with demands to know what had happened from Shayla and me. Our recap in the morning was quite funny but we had to leave early for the bus to Edinburgh.

TBC Edinburgh...
You know you love me.
